Starting School in the Early Years Foundation Stage at Olga

At Olga, we aim to provide a secure, happy, caring and stimulating environment where children develop well and acquire a positive attitude to learning. We believe that this can only be achieved by close co-operation between home and school so we aim to develop a partnership with you and to provide opportunities for you to share with us in making this a successful period in your child’s life.

The documents at the bottom of this page form our EYFS Welcome Pack and contain useful information about your child’s start at Olga, and how you can best support them. You will also find letters containing details of our September settling in programme for EYFS.

We would also like to let you know about the key events we have planned to ensure a successful transition for your child as they start school. Our programme of induction activities include: 

  • A welcome evening to share key information with you about your child’s transition into Nursery / Reception at Olga 
  • Parent/ carer workshops covering key topics to help you prepare your child to start school
  • A transition booklet called ‘All About Me’, to give you the opportunity to tell us about your child
  • Summer term stay and play transition sessions for you and your child to meet the staff in Nursery / Reception and experience the learning space (June / July)
  • Additional small group stay and play transition sessions for children with special educational needs 
  • Individual home visit with your child’s teacher in the week before they start in Nursery / Reception 
  • A thorough settling in programme to ensure a successful start to Nursery / Reception at Olga

Parent / carer workshops for children starting in Nursery / Reception 2023:

  • Monday 12th June 4.30pm - Nursery Welcome Evening (in person)
  • Tuesday 13th June 9.30am - Developing Independence workshop - eating, toileting, getting dressed (virtual) - click here to join the workshop 
  • Monday 19th June 4.30pm - Reception Welcome Evening (in person)
  • Tuesday 20th June 9.30am - Getting Ready for Olga workshop - routines, settling, behaviour (virtual) - click here to join the workshop

Key dates for Reception 2023 transition:

  • Tuesday 27th June 3:45 - 4:30pm Reception Stay and Play - 1 parent can accompany the child - for children new to Olga
  • Monday 10th July (times TBC) Reception Transition morning - all Reception children to spend a morning at Olga with their new class and teacher 
  • Week commencing Monday 5th September - individual home visits by class teachers (by appointment)
  • Monday 11th September - first day of school for Reception children (see Reception settling in letter below) 

Key dates for Nursery 2023 transition:

  • 3:45 - 4:30pm Nursery Stay and Play Sessions for children new to Olga - 1 parent can accompany the child.

    • Tuesday 4th July
    • Thursday 6th July
  • Week commencing Monday 5th September - individual home visits by class teachers (by appointment)
  • Monday 11th September - first day of school for full time Nursery children (see Nursery Full time settling in letter below) 
  • Monday 18th September - first day of school for part time Nursery children attending MTW schedule (see Nursery Part Time MTW Settling In letter below) 
  • Wednesday 20th September - first day of school for part time Nursery children attending WTF schedule (see Nursery Part Time WTF Settling In letter below) 

We will be in touch in due course to let you know your child's individual home visit date with the teacher. We hope you can attend as many transition events as possible.
