Music

Cut

We have lots of musical activities going on at Olga! Each class has their own weekly music lesson in our dedicated music room. We have lots of instruments available, including a wide variety of percussion and keyboards.

We aim to teach our children the main elements of music through listening, singing, playing, composition and recording. We use a variety of music – classical, multicultural and modern – as starting points for our activities. We base the music lessons around the topics being taught in class and at certain points in the year link in with major events/ festivals.

There is also plenty of instrumental tuition happening in Olga! Year 3 have whole class recorder lessons with Karen and Year 4 have whole class Violin tuition with Clodagh. From Year 5 onwards there is the opportunity to have small group Violin lessons with Clodagh and Natalie teaches small groups Bassoon and Flute from Year 4 up to Year 6.

All our young musicians have the opportunity to work towards ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) accredited exams, to participate in the THAMES (Tower Hamlets Arts and Music Service)  led music days and also to play in the fantastic ‘Thames Concert’ at ‘The People’s Palace’.

We have our own very successful ‘Olga Orchestra’ in its third year which the children can join in with from Year 3 and the amazing ‘Olga Choir’ both of which do a variety of performances both in and out of school. Some of our regular events include Carol singing at Lloyds bank and playing at The Ideas Store.

We also gather all of our musicians and singers together twice a year for our Olga Spring and Summer Concerts in school. This is a fantastic opportunity for the parents to hear the marvellous progress we make!
